Our Small Group Isafjodur Iceland Tour
Our small group tour in Ísafjörður, Iceland went to the Dynjandi Waterfall and tour guide’s personal farm. We chose this for the personalization aspect. We loved that the owner was the guide and included a stop at his farm. He also let us sample some dried fish.
Eiderdown Business and Icelandic Sheep
One of his businesses was that he collected eiderdown to sell. The farmers guard the ducks from predators and take care of the ducks then collect eiderdown when the chicks have hatched and the nests are abandoned. On his farm we saw his shy Icelandic sheep with their big, fluffy she don’t have fur. What do they have big, fluffy, sheep, big fluffy wool coats that made them look rolly poly.
Longest Tunnel in Iceland; Westjords Tunnel
We also went though the longest tunnel in Iceland the Westfjords Tunnel that was about 6 miles long and had an intersection in it. Traffic could go both ways, but not at the same time. They had turn outs where they could turn out and wait when they saw a car coming. Some of our most enjoyable tours have always been when we go to the tour guide’s home or farm.
I Buy Independent Tours Instead of Cruise Ship Tours
Our Norwegian cruise had a stop at itinerary at Isafjordur, Iceland. We had arranged for a small tour on Viator. One caution is, if you buy an independent tour that is not one of the cruise ship tours, If the cruise ship cancels or changes the itinerary so you don’t make a stop there or changes the port time of the stop and they give you less than 24 hours notice you will lose your money on the independent tour bought. If you have more than 24 hours notice then most of the time it is refundable. You just have to check the refund policy. We had that happening for one port where we had arranged an independent tour, and the cruise ship gave us less than 24 hour notice that they were not going to stop there. I did lose the money on that tour. But I’d save so many hundreds of dollars by buying my Tours off the ship that in the end I came out ahead.
